What an amazing weekend we have had with the Vernon Kokanee Swim Club swimmers. 17 Teams from BC and Alberta were competing against each other in the 19th Annual MJB Law Ice Classic from Dec 9-11, 2011.
It started all on Friday with Jamie Sullivan making the Girls 15 & under Western Time Standard in the 800 m Freestyle with a time of 9:31.81. Samuel Grenier made his Senior/Open Boys BC AAA Time Standard in the 1500 m Freestyle with a time of 17:51.73, shaving off 45.73 seconds. Joshua Phillips made his Senior/Open Boys BC AAA Time Standard in the 1500 m Freestyle with a time of 17:53.68, shaving off 36.17 seconds. The same day Kiah Lee also made the Girls 15 & under Western Time Standard in the 50 m Breaststroke with a time of 35.62. Kaia Phillips made her Girls 14 year old BC AAA Time Standard in the 800 m Freestyle with a time of 9:59.08. On Saturday Braden Kersey made his Boys 11 & under BC AA Time standard in the 50 m Freestyle with a time of 35.27 and Courtney Lee made her Senior/Open Girls BC AAA Time standard in the 100 m Breaststroke with a time of 1:18.88. Meredith Levorson broke two Club Records, the 50 m Freestyle with a time of 29.08 and the 200 m Backstroke with a time of 2:28.00. Her time got her the Girls 14 year old Age Group National Time Standard. On Sunday Emma Levorson made the Girls 15 & under Western Time standard and the Girls 16-18 year old Age Group Time Standard in the 50 m Backstroke with a time of 31.66. 4 Vernon Kokanee Swimmers will head to The Western Canadian Championships in Winnipeg February 16-19, 2012.
The Kokanee swimmers came home with 10 medals.
Gold medal winners this weekend were: Sydney Fillion (Girls 10 & under, 50 m Breaststroke in a time of 44.95), Meredith Levorson (Girls 11-12, 200 m Butterfly in a time of 2:45.18, 50 m Freestyle in a time of 29.08 and the 200 m Backstroke in a time of 2:28.00), Wouter Terpstra (Boys 15 & over 200 m IM in a time of 2:11.57 and the 400 m IM in a time of 4:42.60).
Silver medal winners: Sydney Fillion (Girls 10 & under 100 m Breaststroke in a time of 1:39.17), Meredith Levorson (Girls 11-12, 200 m IM in a time of 2:35.19 and the 200 m Freestyle in a time of 2:17.16), Wouter Terpstra (200 m Butterfly in a time of 2:13.89).
Bronze medal winner: Meredith Levorson (100 m Backstroke in a time of 1:10.93).
Florian Terpstra came home with 100 % personal best times.
