Vernon was represented at the 2010 BC Summer Games by several Kokanee Swim Club athletes who competed in the triathlon (Jamie Sullivan and Kenyon Neumann) and in swimming (Emily Beatty, Laura Hulstein, Emma Levorson, Christina Slater, Sam Grenier and Florian Terpstra).These athletes travelled together to the township of Langley for this 4 day sporting event held from July 22-25. Thursday began at the early hour of 4 am, travelling by team bus from Kelowna to the Langley event centre to meet up with 3500 athletes/ coaches/ officials from across the Province.
The triathletes competed in 3 different events:
Aquathlon (400 m swim, 1 km run), Jamie Sullivan placed 5th in 11:33 and Kenyon Neumann finished 12th in 11:54.
Duathlon: (1 km run, 8.75 km bike, 1 km run), Jamie finished 12th in 34:28 and Kenyon 8th in 27:58.
Triathlon: (400 m swim, 8.75 bike, 4 km run), Jamie finished 9th in 49:49 and Kenyon 12th in 46:26.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with the closing ceremony, farewells to all the new friendships made and plans to meet at future events.
All in all this was an event of a lifetime and a fantastic experience for all.
